Kid Cash
The purpose of this savings program is to help teach children, at an early age, the importance
and value of saving money. The program promotes a special savings account that we call the Kid Cash account. The program also allows students the chance to work in
a student run credit union.
Kid Cash is a deposit only account, with withdrawals allowed only at the credit union.
Any student attending a school that has partnered
with SageLink Credit Union can sign up and open an account at school. Kid cash accounts earn interest and students receive quarterly statements.
Kid Cash is operated by student tellers and bookkeepers who participate in the Kid Cash program.
With the parental permission 5th and 6th grade students complete an application and are interviewed by a credit union representative.
Students are then scheduled time to take deposits made by the other student's in grades 1 through 6.
Students are taught the importance of confidentiality, counting cash, balancing a cash drawer, responsibility and interacting with others.
It is remarkable how accururate these students are and the pride they take in their volunteer positions.
Currently, the eight schools are participating in this program. The schools are:
- Louise Peacock School, Corunna
- Robert Kerr School, Durand
- Central School, Owosso
- Emerson School, Owosso
- Wilbur Bills School, Bancroft
- Bertha Neal School, Durand
- Bently School, Owosso
- Washington School, Owosso
The Kid Cash program has been a success in the above schools and we are expanding this progam in Swartz Creek and Flint Township.
